Flash floods and landslides inundated villages, destroyed bridges and roads, and sent thousands fleeing their homes in central Indonesia, officials said. At least 39 people were killed, dozens are still missing and rescuers are only starting to reach isolated areas, said Brig. Gen. Badrodin Haiti, a Sulawesi Island police chief. Torrential rains have been falling for days and there are reports of six feet of water in some villages.
