Hong Kong's total goods exports volume rose 7.2% in January on the same month last year, while the goods imports volume grew 12.2%, the Census & Statistics Department says. Taken separately, the re-exports volume grew 10.5% and the domestic exports volume fell 37.5%.
Outward-processing exports slip

Thirty-three per cent of Hong Kong's total exports to the Mainland were for outward processing in the fourth quarter last year, down from 39% in the same period of 2005.
Total exports volume up 10.9% in February

The volume of Hong Kong's goods re-exports rose 14% in February over the same month in 2006, while that of domestic exports fell 34.3%. Taken together, the total export volume rose 10.9%. At the same time, the volume of goods imports rose marginally, by 0.1%.

March saw the value of total exports of goods rise to $206.8 billion, up 6.9% on the same month last year. The figure comes after a year-on-year rise of 11.6% in February.
4 key industries see fall in exports value

In the first quarter of 2007, the value of four major industries' domestic exports fell sharply, from 38% to 58%. These industries accounted for 59% of Hong Kong's total domestic manufactured goods exports.
