Wong Tai Sin lot fetches $3.98b

A government lot in Wong Tai Sin has sold for $3.98 billion at the fourth land auction this financial year. The Lands Department said the price was 32.7% higher than the opening bid of $3 billion.

The Mass Transit Railway recorded a 6.3% rise in revenue for the first half of this year to $4.85 billion. Fare revenue grew 3.5% to $3.25 billion while property development profit fell 59.1% to $1.66 billion.

"China's State Food and Drug Administration spokeswoman, Yan Jiangying, said the government had earmarked 8.8 billion yuan ($1.16 billion) for food and drug safety over the current Five Year Plan, which runs to 2010. Part of this would be spent on a large, new laboratory.
