The government ordered the closing of the offices and the freezing of the bank accounts of two Islamic charities, Al Akhtar Trust and Al-Rashid Trust, listed by the United States since 2003 as financial sponsors of terrorism. The charities were added to a similar United Nations list in 2005, and the state interior minister, Zafar Iqbal Warraich, told Parliament that the United Nations had notified Pakistan that it would impose sanctions if it did not ban them.
